Basic Blacksmith Course 6 – Safety Day

October 15 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

All Basic Blacksmith Courses start with an introductory safety briefing day.  Attendance is mandatory by all students for safety and insurance reasons. An introduction to the tools and equipment to be used will be covered. There is also an overview of the course and an opportunity to talk about what are your expectations. Lunch is provided and this also gives you the opportunity to meet and talk with the other participants. If there is time there will be a chance to do some forging.

Clothing worn must be cotton or wool, no synthetics. Footwear must be fully enclosed and leather is preferred. Safety glasses to be worn while in the forge. Leather gloves can be used however not encouraged to be worn on the hammer hand (allows for slipping of hammer). Leather aprons are provided by the Association, their use is optional. Tools are provided for forging. We encourage participants to have their own hammer, a 900gram engineers hammer (ball pene).
